Carpenter Fined $200,000 for Driving Under the Influence

Totaram Narine, a 41-year-old carpenter from Huist Dieren, Essequibo Coast, has been charged with the offence of driving while his breath alcohol level exceeded the legal limit. This violation is in accordance with Section 39(A)(1) of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02, as amended by Act 17 of 2022.

The incident occurred on February 12, 2026. Narine appeared at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court on February 20, 2026, before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir, where he pleaded guilty to the charge.

As a result, he was fined $200,000 Guyanese dollars. If he fails to pay the fine, he faces an alternative sentence of six months’ imprisonment. This case underscores the importance of adhering to road safety regulations and the consequences of driving under the influence.
