Cattle Owner Charged with Allowing Animals to Stray in East Bank Demerara

Denesh Rohit, a 54-year-old cattle owner, has been charged with three counts of allowing animals to stray, specifically cows, in violation of Section 28(1)(a) of the Road Act, Chapter 51:01.

According to police reports, the offences occurred in the Prospect Young Professional Housing Scheme, the Herstelling Housing Scheme, and the Farm Housing Scheme, all located in East Bank Demerara.

Rohit appeared before His Worship Dylon Bess at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court on February 13, 2026, where the charges were formally read to him. He pleaded guilty to all three counts.

As a result, Rohit was fined a total of thirty thousand Guyana dollars ($30,000 GYD), with a ten thousand dollar ($10,000 GYD) fine imposed for each count. Additionally, he was advised to take appropriate measures to secure his animals properly to prevent future incidents.
