CEO Damian Blackburn Departs From One Communications

News Source Guyana Reports : Four years after taking the helm of GTT, which has recently been rebranded as ONE Communications, the company has announced the departure of Chief Executive Officer Damian Blackburn. The decision was communicated to staff members recently, with Blackburn expected to remain on the company’s Board of Directors for a few months before making a complete exit.

A senior official at ONE Communications revealed that this decision is part of a broader strategy to overhaul management and implement key business decisions. Blackburn, who became CEO in 2021, was credited with spearheading the expansion of the company’s fiber internet service and efforts to connect more communities.

However, in recent years, the focus has shifted toward fiber internet and corporate customers as the company’s mobile service faced increasing competition. Over the past two years, ONE Communications has scaled back operations in some urban areas and shifted towards online solutions.

Sources indicate that as part of the restructuring, several positions within the company may be made redundant, leading to recent layoffs. A new marketing strategy is also anticipated, with a broader focus aimed at revitalizing the company’s offerings.

Currently, the company has paused new contracts while the strategy is finalized. In addition to Blackburn’s departure, the company has also parted ways with its Chief Financial Officer and several top managers.

While a new CEO has yet to be identified, reports suggest that a former CEO of DIGICEL Trinidad and Tobago is being considered for a key position within the company.

ONE Communications officially rebranded from GTT in September 2024, with many decision-making processes being shifted to regional partners.
