Chayanne Parboo: A Two-Time Cancer Survivor’s Inspiring Journey

Kaieteur News Report : Nine-year-old Chayanne Parboo has triumphed over cancer for the second time, returning to Guyana after successful treatment in the United States, thanks to the support of Saving Hands Emergency Aid (SHEA).

Chayanne’s battle began at just three years old when she was diagnosed with leukemia. Lacking the necessary treatment options in Guyana, her parents, Verney and Omesh Parboo, sought help from SHEA. With the charity’s assistance and a wave of support from the community, Chayanne traveled to the U.S. for vital treatment.

After months of chemotherapy and facing numerous challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, she beat cancer and returned home in remission.

However, the joy was short-lived. Shortly after returning to school, Chayanne began experiencing pain in her eye. Initial assessments suggested retinal detachment, a complication that can occur with certain cancers. Concerned, her parents insisted on further testing, which revealed that a tumor had re-emerged behind her eye.

Determined to fight again, Chayanne returned to the U.S. for treatment. Now older and more aware of her situation, she faced her battles with a mix of bravery and vulnerability. Despite the challenges, including pain and emotional turmoil, she never gave up.

SHEA praised her parents for their unwavering support during this difficult time. With community donations pouring in, friends and strangers rallied to support the Parboo family once more.

After months of treatment, countless scans, and medical appointments, Chayanne received the news everyone had been hoping for—her cancer was gone, and she was in remission.

SHEA expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to Chayanne’s journey, acknowledging the love and care from medical professionals and the strength shown by her family.

Chayanne has emerged not only as a survivor but as a symbol of resilience and hope. Her story inspires many, reminding us of the power of community support in the face of adversity.
