Cheddi Jagan Dental Centre Achieves Milestone with Landmark Bridge Procedure Using Cutting-Edge Technology

  • News

The Cheddi Jagan Dental Centre has made significant strides in public dental services in Guyana by successfully completing a complex Bridge procedure utilizing state-of-the-art digital technology. This landmark achievement underscores the Centre’s commitment to providing high-quality dental care.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Sergio Africano, a Specialist in Autodontics and Digital Dentistry. Leveraging advanced equipment—including Panoramic X-ray, Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), a Dental Digital Intra-Oral Scanner, and a Dental 3D Printer—the Centre delivered a modern and efficient service to its patient.

In addition to his clinical role, Dr. Africano serves as a Lecturer in the reintegrated Dental Technician Programme, funded by the Ministry of Health. This programme incorporates elements of digital dentistry, ensuring that future dental professionals are well-equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to utilize modern technology in patient care.

Notably, the procedure, which typically costs around $400,000 at private health facilities, was performed at no cost to the patient at the Centre’s newly established Digital Dental Laboratory.

This accomplishment not only showcases the capabilities of the Digital Dental Laboratory but also highlights the Ministry of Health’s ongoing investment in expanding access to advanced healthcare services.

The Ministry emphasized that the introduction of cutting-edge dental technology is part of a broader strategy to modernize Guyana’s healthcare system, making advanced services accessible to citizens free of charge.
