Yvette Sydney, a 59-year-old mother of three, is currently fighting for her life against cervical cancer. Diagnosed with the disease last October, she urgently requires financial assistance to seek treatment in neighbouring Suriname.

Unable to maintain employment due to her condition, Sydney’s treatment is estimated to last five weeks and will cost approximately $2 million. Her son, Junior Sydney, shared with Kaieteur News that the family is struggling to raise the necessary funds, prompting their appeal for public support.
Junior described his mother’s condition, stating she is experiencing significant pain and is hemorrhaging. Although she can occasionally move independently, she needs help with daily activities. “She can eat by herself, but getting up to cook or go to the stove is quite hard for her because of the pain in her back and lower belly,” he explained, noting that he assists her with meal preparation.
Following her chemotherapy and radiation treatment scheduled over the next six weeks, Yvette will undergo surgery after an additional three weeks of treatment in Suriname.
