In the early hours of Tuesday, July 2, 2025, a police constable was arrested in Ruimveldt after being found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

At approximately 1:30 AM, police ranks conducting an Anti-Crime Mobile Patrol received reports from residents about a white Premio motor car parked on a street in Riverview, with a male occupant allegedly in possession of a firearm.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers located the vehicle and identified the driver as Areyon Grannum, a 26-year-old police constable stationed at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU). When questioned, Grannum claimed he was on sick leave and was simply “liming.” He stated that the car was his, recently purchased from an auto dealer.
After informing him of the reports received, police conducted a search. While no weapon was found on Grannum, a .32 Taurus pistol with a magazine containing 11 live rounds was discovered in the driver’s side door panel.
When asked if he had a license for the firearm, Grannum admitted he did not. He was informed of the offense, arrested, and cautioned, stating that the firearm was for his personal protection.
Grannum was escorted to the Ruimveldt Police Station along with his vehicle. The firearm and ammunition were marked, sealed, and lodged as evidence, and the car was also secured. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
