President Ali emphasized the need for modernizing crime reporting mechanisms in our fast-paced society. “We are living in a fast-paced society, and we also have to change the mechanism of reporting crime so that we can have proactive policing,” he stated.

The new platform will feature a simple e-reporting form, allowing anyone to report a crime directly from their phone. Once submitted, the report will be electronically sent to the nearest police outpost, which will be integrated into the system.

“The system will also track police response times and overall performance,” the President added, highlighting the anticipated improvements in police efficiency.

Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken noted that this initiative builds upon updates to the 911 platform in Region 4, which is part of a broader effort to connect all police regions under a national system. The 911 system functions as an emergency call center that receives reports of crimes, accidents, or urgent incidents, directing them to the appropriate local police unit.

Dr. Ali underscored that the e-reporting platform aims to advance proactive and preventative policing strategies. “We want not only a highly effective and efficient police force in response but also in proactive and preventative policing,” he remarked, asserting that technology will enable the force to better anticipate and prevent crime through enhanced analysis and coordination.

This innovative approach signifies the government’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve public safety and enhance the overall policing experience in Guyana.
