Hgp Nightly News Reports | Tragedy struck on Saturday afternoon when Ariel Betancourt Ramírez, a 48-year-old Cuban national, was stabbed to death in what police suspect to be a targeted attack along Middle Road, La Penitence.
According to reports, Ramírez was on his way to pick up his reputed wife from work when residents discovered him lying motionless on the roadway around 2 p.m. They quickly raised the alarm.
Police investigators confirmed that Ramírez sustained two stab wounds—one to the chest and another to the left side of his chest—and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, crime scene investigators recovered a blood-stained knife from a nearby drain, which is believed to be the murder weapon.
CCTV footage from the National Command Centre captured two male suspects of African descent riding past the victim on bicycles before circling back. Moments later, they were seen fleeing west, with one of the individuals discarding the knife.
The suspects remain at large, and police are actively canvassing the area for additional CCTV footage and witnesses to assist in the investigation.
The body of Ariel Betancourt Ramírez has been taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, and investigations are ongoing.
