On June 29, 2025, Dillon A. Mohamed, an advisor to the Youth For Change (YFC) and former president of the organization, announced his resignation from the Alliance For Change (AFC) and several affiliated roles.

In a heartfelt letter addressed to General Secretary Raphael Trotman, Mohamed expressed gratitude for the nearly seven years he served as a political activist with the party, particularly highlighting his experiences as Guyana’s first openly LGBTQ youth politician.
Reasons for Resignation
Mohamed outlined several reasons for his decision, including:
Disappointment with Leadership: He cited a growing discontent with the party’s direction and a perceived lack of commitment to youth issues, particularly following the 2016 elections when youth supporters felt abandoned by party leaders.
Coalition Politics: Mohamed expressed concern over the party’s anti-coalition sentiment, which he believes undermines the collective efforts to remove the current government from power. He noted that many members, especially the youth, were eager for a coalition to address the pressing issues facing the country.
Discrimination Concerns: He criticized the party for failing to adequately address incidents of discrimination within its ranks, including homophobic and sexist remarks made in online forums. Mohamed emphasized that the leadership’s inaction on these issues contradicted their stated values.
Commitment to Future Change
Despite his resignation, Mohamed affirmed his commitment to social democracy and democratic socialism, stating he would not join the current government, which he views as a “ruthlessly capitalist party.” He left the door open for a potential return to the AFC if the party realigns its motives to prioritize the needs of the people of Guyana.
In closing, Mohamed reiterated his dedication to inclusive politics and urged the party to reconsider its approach in order to better serve its constituents.
