Two weeks after the brutal murder of 46-year-old Jenny Mohamed, her daughter and son-in-law were charged and remanded to jail on Tuesday. Saffia Mohamed, 23, and her reputed husband, Austin Ramchand, 24, appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Vigilance Magistrates’ Court, where they were not required to enter a plea to the murder charge.

The couple is accused of murdering Jenny Mohamed on June 10, 2025. They were remanded to jail until August 4, when the matter will be called again.
Initially, Jenny’s husband was detained for questioning but was later released without charges. He reported that he last saw his wife alive on the morning of June 10, after leaving for work. He mentioned that an argument had occurred the previous night between Jenny and Saffia, during which Jenny ordered her daughter and Ramchand to move out of her home by the following day.
It is believed that after the husband left for work, tensions flared again between Jenny, her daughter, and Ramchand.
Jenny was reported missing two days later, and her body was discovered wrapped in garbage bags along the new Eccles roadway eight days after her disappearance. The body bore multiple stab wounds and signs of violence.
Police indicated that both Saffia and Ramchand allegedly confessed to the crime after bloodstains were found in various locations within the home. The investigation revealed that Jenny had been both strangled and stabbed before her body was removed from the house and discarded several miles away from her residence in Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara.
The case has garnered significant attention, and community members are calling for justice as the investigation continues.
