Former President David Granger has expressed his full support for the new candidate list that will be presented by the PNC-led APNU Coalition, under the leadership of Opposition Leader Aubrey Norton. In an interview with News Source, Granger emphasized his commitment to the coalition, despite the final list not yet being submitted.

“There is a single presidential candidate and one representative for the list. Votes cannot be cast for individual persons or parties within a coalition; they are considered for the coalition as a whole. Therefore, my vote for the PNC-APNU will support every candidate on that list,” Granger stated.
While he remains supportive, Granger acknowledged the recent resignations of several party members, which he believes have damaged the party and left parts of the APNU’s support base unrepresented. He remains optimistic about the party’s ability to recover.
“The PNC will survive, but we must be vigilant against further defections. Recent resignations could trigger a ‘copycat effect,’ where other members may feel compelled to leave rather than wait for dismissal. Such actions, especially ten weeks before elections, harm the party’s credibility and raise questions about its leadership,” he noted.
Granger also criticized the Alliance for Change (AFC) for the breakdown of coalition talks, attributing the failure to the AFC’s focus on personal positions rather than policies. He recalled past tensions within the PNC and highlighted the importance of learning from history.
“The AFC’s obsession with presidential candidacy and parliamentary seats shifted negotiations from policies to personalities. This toxic atmosphere can lead to acrimony,” he explained.
Furthermore, Granger pointed out that the PNC-led APNU has not adequately learned from its losses in the June 2023 Local Government Elections, where it failed to secure new hinterland capital towns. He believes this should have provided the party with a crucial opportunity to regain its constituencies in preparation for the upcoming elections.
As the election date approaches, Granger’s insights underscore the challenges and strategies facing the PNC-APNU coalition in their bid for electoral success.
