Detective Assistant Superintendent of Police Johann Henry, Officer in Charge of the Regional Police Division Six Criminal Investigation Department (CID), has been honored as the Best Cop for Region Six in 2025. This recognition highlights his exemplary leadership and dedication to policing in the region.

In an interview with Ignite News following the announcement, Henry expressed gratitude for the accolade but emphasized that it reflects a collective effort within the police force rather than his individual achievements. “I don’t want to put ‘I’ in the mix of this thing,” he stated. “It might sound cliché to say it’s a team effort, but it is definitely a team effort. Whatever we do in Region Six is a Guyana Police Force effort.”

Having spent nearly nine years serving across the country’s interior regions, Henry’s career has taken him from Regions One to Nine, including Regions Seven and Eight, before he took on his current role in Region Six. He acknowledged the unique challenges that came with this transition, particularly the differences in community culture. “It’s vastly different,” he noted, “but I’ve adjusted and acclimatized.”

When discussing what set him apart in the eyes of senior officers and evaluators, Henry highlighted management and leadership skills, crediting his detectives and supportive commanding officers for the division’s successes. “My team, mostly my detectives, led by our able commander, investigated and solved several significant cases. We brought up to speed some main court cases from years back and managed to bring many matters closer to the truth.”

Henry stressed the importance of collaboration, strategic management, and a dedicated approach to policing. “You have to live it, you have to breathe it. Once you put your mind behind it and start fighting, you will succeed,” he remarked.

This year, Henry reported a significant reduction in crime within Region Six, stating that the crime rate has decreased by nearly 60%. “Last year we had quite a high rate of crime,” he explained, “but this year we were able to get it down to just below a 60% decrease, which is a significant step in the fight against crime.”

The award underscores the essential role of effective leadership and teamwork in enhancing law enforcement efforts and improving public safety in the region, reinforcing the importance of collective action in achieving substantial results.
