The News Desk Reports : A tragic accident on Thursday evening has left a 16-year-old boy dead following a high-speed chase involving the Guyana Police Force on the Princeton Access Road, Corentyne, Berbice.

The deceased has been identified as Aftaz King, a 16-year-old labourer from Lot 49 Eliza Mary Race Course, Corentyne. King succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m. on June 25, 2026. King was riding his motorcycle, bearing license plate CL 5607, when he was approached by police officers traveling in a patrol vehicle. It is alleged that the teenager, fearing arrest because he did not possess a driver’s license, attempted to evade the officers, sparking a pursuit.
Sources familiar with the investigation allege that during the chase, the police patrol vehicle made contact with the motorcycle, causing the teenager to lose control. The bike subsequently struck a utility pole, resulting in the fatal outcome.
Region Six Commander, Shivpersaud Bacchus, confirmed the fatality and the circumstances surrounding the event. “I have to report a fatal incident which occurred on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at about 18:45 hrs on Princeton Access Road, Corentyne, Berbice, involving motorcycle #CL 5607, owned and driven by Aftaz King,” the Commander stated.
The Guyana Police Force has launched an official investigation into the incident. Authorities have indicated that further details will be provided as the inquiry into the conduct of the officers involved and the events leading to the crash progresses.
