Dr. Ashni Singh Reports Strong Early Uptake for $100,000 National Cash Grant Registration

News

Senior Minister in the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, says the Government’s $100,000 national cash grant programme is receiving a strong early response, with thousands of Guyanese completing registration within the first 24 hours after the online portal went live.

Speaking on Friday evening, Dr. Singh reported that 6,834 persons successfully completed self-registration since the portal launched on Thursday evening.

He also said that 12,889 persons have created accounts and are at different stages of completing the process, indicating significant public interest in the initiative.

Dr. Singh described the initial uptake as “tremendous,” explaining that the high volume of traffic affected the system’s speed at times.

“In the initial hours, the volume of traffic has been tremendous… and in some instances, it has affected the speed with which the system has been responding,” he said.

He assured the public that system performance is expected to improve as usage stabilises, particularly during off-peak hours.

How registration works

The registration process allows eligible Guyanese to sign up from home by:

  • creating an account,
  • submitting personal details,
  • uploading identification,
  • completing a facial recognition test, and
  • providing bank account information.

Dr. Singh urged citizens to use the digital platform and to remain patient if they encounter delays, saying there is no need to worry and that the system will remain open for people to try again.

He added that a help desk has been set up to assist those experiencing difficulties.

Bank account details and alternatives

The Government has said providing bank account details is the most efficient way to receive the grant because funds can be transferred directly without requiring recipients to go in person. However, Dr. Singh said people without bank accounts will still receive the grant through alternative arrangements, which may involve in-person collection.

Payments already started

The update comes after the Government began distributing payments to public sector employees last week. According to Dr. Singh, 48,858 central government workers—including public servants, teachers, and members of the disciplined services—have already received the $100,000 grant directly into their bank accounts.

Dr. Singh encouraged all eligible Guyanese to register via the portal, especially during quieter periods, to complete the process.
