The driver involved in the fatal crash that claimed the life of 22-year-old Lakhram Etwaroo has been apprehended after initially fleeing the scene.

The incident occurred on Sunday around 11:00 AM when Sumesh James, a resident of Number 36 Village, was driving his vehicle, with license plate PXX 9161, and had Etwaroo as a passenger. Reports indicate that James was traveling south at a high speed when he lost control, resulting in the vehicle colliding with a Guyana Power and Light (GPL) utility pole before crashing into a parked car with license plate PAE 7288, situated on the eastern side of a concrete bridge.
After the collision, bystanders rushed to help and managed to extricate Etwaroo from the car. He was transported to Port Mourant Public Hospital, where medical staff attended to his injuries. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
Following the crash, James fled the scene but has since been arrested and is now cooperating with police investigations. Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine the next steps.
