Months after being on the run, police have successfully apprehended the driver who allegedly struck down a Berbice family on their electric bike and fled the scene back in March this year. The tragic accident resulted in the death of nine-month-old Eli Surujnarine, while her teenage parents were also injured.
An intelligence-led operation, spearheaded by a senior officer from the Springlands Police Station, took place between 18:00 hrs and 18:30 hrs yesterday (Tuesday) at Line Path, Corentyne Berbice. This operation led to the capture of Avinash Naidoo, a 32-year-old resident of Corentyne, who was involved in a “causing death by dangerous driving” incident that occurred on March 2, 2025, at the same location.
Naidoo has been escorted to the Springlands Police Station, where he remains pending further investigation.
