Nelson Andrews, a 27-year-old driver from Gay Park, New Amsterdam, was charged with several offenses following an incident at Cross Street, Alexander Village, Georgetown. The charges against him include:

Dangerous Driving

Failing to Report an Accident

Failing to Stop After an Accident

Failing to Render Assistance to an Injured Person

On Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at approximately 09:00 hrs, Andrews appeared before Her Worship Shivani Lalaram at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. During the proceedings, he pleaded guilty to all charges.

As a result, Andrews was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for Dangerous Driving, along with a one-year suspension of his driver’s license. He also received fines of $40,000 for each of the remaining charges—failing to report an accident, failing to stop after an accident, and failing to render assistance to an injured person. If he is unable to pay the fines, each charge carries an alternative sentence of eight weeks’ imprisonment.

This case underscores the importance of responsible driving and the legal obligations individuals have to assist others in the event of an accident.
