Patrick Roach, a 31-year-old driver from Number 28 Village, has been remanded to prison after facing charges of armed robbery. Roach appeared at the Fort Wellington Magistrates Court on Thursday before Magistrate Tuanna Hardy.

The court heard that on July 28, Roach allegedly committed an armed robbery against 35-year-old Balwant Changalal from Experiment Bath Settlement, stealing a gold chain valued at $400,000. Roach did not enter a plea for the charge.
The prosecution opposed bail, highlighting Roach’s pending case at Blairmont Magistrates Court for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Magistrate Hardy upheld the prosecution’s concerns, denying bail and remanding Roach to custody. He is scheduled to return to court on August 20.
Reports indicate that around 9:00 PM, Roach, accompanied by associates, was at a shop in Middle Dam Bush Lot when he approached Changalal. In a violent confrontation, Roach allegedly yanked off the victim’s gold chain and struck him in the face. Changalal managed to escape in a nearby vehicle.
Witnesses reported that Roach appeared to be wielding a firearm during the incident. Following the attack, the police were alerted and, acting swiftly, apprehended Roach at his residence. The case continues to raise concerns about public safety in the area.
