ERC Investigates Racial Remarks Allegedly Made by Businessman Nazar Mohamed

The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) has announced that its Media Monitoring Unit (MMU) has noted a video circulating on social media dated January 8, 2026, in which businessman Nazar Mohamed allegedly made concerning racial remarks.

In a statement, the ERC confirmed that the MMU has captured and recorded the statements in question as part of its ongoing monitoring activities. The Commission emphasized that any remarks promoting ethnic hostility, prejudice, or discrimination fall within its constitutional mandate.

The ERC’s release stated, “In keeping with established protocols honoring due process and fairness, the matter is currently engaging the attention of the ERC’s Investigative Unit.” They assured the public that updates would be provided as investigations progress.

The ERC reiterated its commitment to fostering harmony, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence among all ethnic groups in Guyana.
