Essequibo Man Charged with Possession of Narcotics for Trafficking

Ramesh Gangoo, a 45-year-old laborer from Anna Regina Housing Scheme, has been arrested and charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, in violation of Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, Chapter 10:10.

Gangoo was arrested on January 21, 2026, on Anna Regina Old Market Road, where he was found with 2.2 grams of suspected cocaine.

He appeared in the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court on January 22, 2026, before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed. Gangoo pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to one year in prison, along with a fine of $30,000.
