A 42-year-old farmer, Gerald Isaacs, has been sentenced to two years in prison after being found in possession of two illegal firearms in Karasabai Village, South Pakaraimas.

According to a police statement, law enforcement officers from the Karasabai Police Station acted on a report of simple larceny, which led them to search a residence in Jawarie Village. During the investigation, police discovered a .36 gauge shotgun and a 20 gauge shotgun hidden in a bedroom.

Isaacs was arrested at the scene and transported to the Lethem Police Station, where the seized firearms were logged as part of the ongoing investigation.

He faced two counts of possession of a firearm without a license, in violation of Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05.

On Monday, during his appearance before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court, Isaacs pleaded guilty to both charges. He was fined $50,000 and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for each count, with the sentences to run consecutively.
