Female Officer Completes Prestigious U.S. Military Training

The Chief of Defence Staff, officers, and ranks of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) extend their heartfelt congratulations to Colonel Lorraine Foster, MSM, for successfully completing a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy, along with a Diploma for the U.S. Joint Professional Military Education Phase II and Senior Level Education, at the Eisenhower School of the National Defense University (NDU) in Washington, D.C.

Colonel Foster commenced her training in 2024 after a competitive selection process and the approval of the Guyana Defence Board, chaired by His Excellency, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Her candidacy marks a significant effort by the GDF to integrate and expose female officers to strategic defense training.

Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier Omar Khan, MSS, praised Colonel Foster’s accomplishment, highlighting it as a reflection of the caliber of leadership the GDF continues to cultivate. “Colonel Foster represents the evolving face of military excellence in Guyana—strategically minded, highly patriotic, and deeply committed to service,” he affirmed.

Brigadier Khan also expressed appreciation to the Government and Military of the United States for providing this remarkable opportunity for Guyanese military officers to train at one of its most prestigious institutions.

With this milestone achievement, Colonel Foster becomes the first and highest-ranking female officer to undergo such training. Her graduation coincides with a critical juncture in the GDF’s strategic development and strengthens the military partnership with the United States, alongside Guyana’s growing geopolitical relevance within the hemisphere.

Congratulations, Colonel Foster!
