The last concrete slab for the new US$262 million Demerara River Bridge is set to be installed on August 25, as confirmed by Minister of Public Works Bishop Juan Edghill. During a recent inspection, he announced that the final eight girders will also be installed between August 15 and 17.

Minister Edghill assured the public that the bridge will be completed by the end of August, despite weather challenges. He addressed concerns about the bridge’s load capacity, emphasizing that it has been designed to meet international standards.

The bridge will have a lifespan of 100 years, offering toll-free access and accommodating all vehicle sizes at a maximum speed of 80 km/h. It is expected to benefit over 50,000 daily commuters, resulting in annual savings of approximately $3.5 billion.

“This bridge is a landmark development in Guyana’s modernization efforts,” Edghill stated, encouraging public confidence in the project.
