News Source Guyana Reports | With less than ten days remaining before Christmas, many citizens are eagerly awaiting an announcement regarding a cash grant for the holiday season. Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to this initiative, which, he insists, is part of a broader strategy to promote prosperity for all citizens.

In a recent appearance on the Starting Point podcast, Dr. Singh emphasized that while cash grants are a vital component of the government’s strategy, a comprehensive approach involving job creation and skills development is essential for long-term improvement in the lives of Guyanese people. “We will provide support and targeted assistance to the Guyanese population through a comprehensive range of policies,” he stated.
The opposition has been vocal, urging the government to implement a cash grant for the Christmas holidays. However, Dr. Singh highlighted that large injections of cash into the economy could potentially lead to inflation if not paired with suitable policies.
“Our ultimate goal is to enable every Guyanese to take care of themselves, acquire the right skills, and secure good quality employment,” he explained. “We want national prosperity to translate into community, household, and individual prosperity.”
Dr. Singh reiterated that the government is not opposed to cash grants, noting that the current administration was the originator of this initiative. He assured citizens that cash grants would be part of a broader suite of policies designed for the lasting economic empowerment of all Guyanese.
President Ali has consistently emphasized his commitment to deliver on promises made during the electoral campaign ahead of last September’s elections, prompting anticipation for the government’s next steps as the holiday season approaches.
