Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh Promises Major Investments in Region Six

  • News

Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh addressed residents of Little Africa, Region Six, during a public meeting on Friday, emphasizing the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) commitment to investing in the region and caring for its citizens.

Dr. Singh reflected on the hardships faced by Berbicians from 2015 to 2020 under the APNU+AFC coalition, particularly highlighting the closure of several sugar estates that significantly impacted local livelihoods. He criticized the coalition for introducing new taxes and eliminating school grants, which further strained families in the area.

In contrast, he outlined the PPP’s initiatives aimed at fostering development, including plans for a new bridge across the Corentyne River and a four-lane bridge over the Berbice River, both expected to stimulate regional growth. Additionally, he mentioned upcoming housing developments and investments in social sectors as part of the party’s vision for the community.

Dr. Singh assured residents that these efforts would continue if the PPP is re-elected in the upcoming September 1, 2025, General and Regional Elections. He urged the people of Little Africa to make the right choice at the polls, stating, “It’s a simple choice. It’s a choice between those who care and those who do not.”

He affirmed, “The PPP/C is the only party that genuinely cares for the people of Guyana.”

In related news, the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has approved several political parties, including the PPP/C, APNU, AFC, Assembly of Liberty and Prosperity (ALP), Forward Guyana Movement (FGM), and We Invest in Nationhood (WIN), in accordance with legal requirements and statutory timelines following Nomination Day.
