A man has been detained for questioning in connection with the fire that destroyed a house at Salton Farm in Corentyne, Berbice, on Friday night.

Samantha Crawford, a 44-year-old housewife, was residing in a two-story, three-bedroom home at Lot 9, Salton Farm. In an interview with reporters, Samantha explained that she had left her house around 7:30 PM on Friday with her fiancé, Terrence Edwards, a 38-year-old gold miner, and traveled to Rose Hall Town. While there, she received a call from a neighbor informing her that her home was on fire.
Upon returning, she discovered her house was completely engulfed in flames, with firefighters battling the blaze. Unfortunately, the fire resulted in the total destruction of the building.
Samantha revealed that she had been experiencing ongoing issues with a rice farmer from Alness Village. Earlier that day, around 4:30 PM, she reported having a heated argument with him, during which he ominously told her she had “nine days more to live” before walking away. She mentioned that the man frequently leaves two horses in her yard, and when she attempts to discuss this with him, he responds with verbal insults.
Samantha suspects that the man may have set her house on fire due to the prior threats. Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire; however, the building was not insured.
Following the investigation, the man Samantha suspects has been arrested and is currently in custody as authorities continue to look into the case.
