Five New Land Surveyors Sworn In by President Ali, Urged to Uphold Integrity

  • News

Five individuals took their oath to become certified Land Surveyors during a ceremony at the Office of the President on Thursday, with President Irfaan Ali emphasizing the high standards and integrity required in the profession.

The newly certified surveyors—Meshacq Richards, Kishon Dos Santos, Justin Jarvis, Troy Histick, and Tyrek Grant—were present for the ceremony, while a sixth individual, Tyrese Spier, is currently studying abroad.

“Your greatest asset is your integrity. The nation can invest in the most advanced surveying technology, but all of this is meaningless if the professionals using such tools are careless and corrupt,” President Ali stated. He underscored that entering this profession is not merely a career choice but a commitment to uphold order, clarity, and justice within society.

The President highlighted the critical role that land surveyors play in societal development, noting that their work underpins the structured use of land and resources. “The economy is expanding at an unprecedented pace, and your skills are needed now more than ever,” he remarked, referring to ongoing projects such as new highways, housing developments, bridges, and energy initiatives.

With plans to develop over 30,000 houselots, the government aims to bolster the tourism and service sectors. “Every structure, every title deed, every investment rests upon the certainty and accuracy that only you as surveyors can provide,” he added.

President Ali also cautioned the new surveyors about potential land disputes and urged them to adhere to the highest ethical standards. He noted that advancements in land surveying technology, such as virtual reality, are on the horizon and encouraged ongoing education and investment in learning opportunities.

As these new land surveyors embark on their professional journeys, they carry the responsibility to ensure the integrity and accuracy essential for sustainable development in Guyana.
