Pandit Ubraj Narine, the former Mayor of Georgetown, has announced his resignation from the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR). In a resignation letter addressed to party leader Aubrey Norton, Narine mentioned that his decision came after “careful reflection.”
He expressed gratitude for the support and camaraderie he received during his time with the party, stating, “I remain deeply grateful for the guidance, cooperation, and camaraderie extended to me by the Party and the wider party membership over the years.” Narine emphasized a shared commitment to peace, democracy, and the advancement of all Guyanese, hoping that their paths may still align on these values despite his departure.
In his letter, he acknowledged the longstanding contribution of the PNCR to Guyana’s political history, extending his best wishes for the party’s continued efforts in nation-building.
Narine’s resignation follows a trend that has seen several other prominent members of the PNCR step down over the past year. The party, one of the major political forces in Guyana, has faced significant challenges, including a noticeable decline in national support, as reflected in the September 2025 General and Regional Elections. In these elections, the PNCR received the third-highest votes, being surpassed by the newcomer We Invest in Nationhood (WIN), which has emerged as the main opposition party.
