Forward Guyana Movement Calls for Vote Splitting in Elections

News

The Forward Guyana Movement (FGM), one of three new parties in the electoral race, urged Guyanese to “split” their votes in the upcoming General and Regional Elections. Presidential candidate Amanza Walton-Desir addressed supporters at Burnham Court, criticizing the dominance of the “red and green parties” that have historically divided the nation.

Walton-Desir emphasized that voters should focus on what they are voting for, not against, and positioned FGM as the credible alternative for real change. She stated, “You have a choice… Forward Guyana is the only credible alternative.”

Former Minister Ronald Bulkan echoed her sentiments, challenging the notion that voters shouldn’t split their votes. He argued that the major parties have maintained power through racial alignment, which has divided the country and hindered progress. “The vote belongs to you, not to any party,” he declared.

Bulkan highlighted that elections have often been about race rather than policies, and called for a governance system that values all citizens. FGM candidate Randolph Critchlow added that splitting the vote would lead to better representation in parliament.

FGM is contesting the elections in seven regions, aiming to provide a fresh perspective in the political landscape of Guyana.
