The Forward Guyana Movement has expressed deep concern over the exclusion of several accredited media houses from President Ali’s first press conference following his re-election. The organization criticized the decision to hand-pick journalists allowed to ask questions, warning that this sets a troubling precedent for transparency in governance.

In a statement, the movement highlighted that just days prior, Reporters Without Borders urged the government to take concrete steps to improve press freedom. Instead of heeding this call, the Office of the President opted for exclusion and restriction, raising alarms about the state of democracy in Guyana.
“To control access and limit questions is a clear indicator of authoritarianism,” the statement read, emphasizing that such actions disservice both the media and the citizens who are entitled to transparency.
The Forward Guyana Movement urged the government to recommit to openness and fairness, stating that the Guyanese people deserve nothing less than a transparent and accountable administration.
