The Forward Guyana Movement has condemned, in the strongest terms, the recent public sexual assault of a young woman by two men at Raghoo Bar in Soesdyke. This abhorrent act, reported by various social media sources, occurred in the presence of patrons who not only failed to intervene but chose to record the crime, turning a blind eye to the suffering of a drugged or unconscious victim.

This disturbing incident highlights a profound insensitivity and a deep-rooted malaise that has taken hold in Guyanese society—the devaluation of human life and the dehumanization of women and children. The lack of action from bystanders underscores a troubling trend where the safety and dignity of individuals are disregarded for the sake of entertainment.
The Forward Guyana Movement asserts that the longer this issue remains unaddressed by all responsible parties—government, civil society, religious leaders, educators, and parents—the further the nation risks deteriorating in terms of the quality of life that should be afforded to every citizen, regardless of their background.
Hard questions must be asked of those involved, particularly the perpetrators. What entitlement led them to exploit a clearly incapacitated woman? What mindset allows individuals to engage in sexual assault in public spaces without fear of repercussions?
The establishment’s proprietor, management, and staff cannot claim ignorance. Their inaction allowed the venue to become a crime scene, making them complicit in the assault. The Forward Guyana Movement calls for a thorough examination of legal options against the establishment to deter similar incidents in the future.
Furthermore, patrons who witnessed the event and failed to act have revealed their true character. Their indifference makes them equally culpable, undermining the safety and dignity of women, minors, and vulnerable individuals in society.
We urge all decent and respectful members of society to unequivocally condemn this heinous act and the individuals responsible. We demand a thorough investigation by the Guyana Police Force to bring all involved to justice.
Our thoughts are with the victim, who, through no fault of her own, found herself in a situation where trust was misplaced. It is imperative that we stand together to ensure that such acts of violence are met with unwavering opposition and accountability.
