A late-night accident on Monday, November 24, has left four individuals injured on the Berbice River Bridge Access Road.

The collision involved a motor car, PAJ 1625, carrying a 57-year-old driver from Martin Luther Housing Scheme, New Amsterdam, along with three passengers: a 30-year-old woman and a 7-year-old student from Islington Village, East Bank Berbice, as well as a 66-year-old visitor from South Ozone Park, New York.
Initial reports indicate that the vehicle was traveling east at a high speed when the driver lost control and collided with a culvert on the southern side of the road.
Public-spirited citizens and emergency medical personnel responded swiftly, transporting the victims to New Amsterdam Public Hospital. Three of the injured were admitted for fractures and other injuries, while the 30-year-old woman is being treated for soft tissue injuries.
The incident has deeply affected the local community, highlighting the human cost of road accidents, especially with the involvement of both residents and an overseas visitor. The vehicle involved in the crash has been impounded, and Regional Division number 6 police are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
