GDF Executes Emergency MEDEVAC from Region 1

On Sunday, June 15, 2025, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) successfully conducted a medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) mission following an urgent request from the Ministry of Health.

The operation was prompted by a 21-year-old male casualty who sustained critical injuries in a boat mishap. Initially stabilized at the Kumaka District Hospital, his condition rapidly deteriorated, necessitating immediate advanced medical intervention.

The GDF deployed its Bell 412 helicopter from Base Camp Ayanganna at 8:40 PM. On board were GDF Medic Corporal Sheena Waithe and a civilian emergency medical professional. The aircraft landed at the Bemichi Airstrip in Moruca at 9:24 PM, where the casualty was received, stabilized, and prepared for transport.

At 10:22 PM, the helicopter returned to Base Camp Ayanganna Playfield, where a GDF medical response team and a waiting ambulance executed a seamless handover for onward transport to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

This mission highlights the operational readiness and strategic utility of the GDF’s Air Corps in supporting national emergency operations, especially in hinterland and hard-to-reach areas. The Force remains committed to providing timely, life-saving support in defense of national welfare.

The Guyana Defence Force extends its best wishes for the casualty’s full recovery and commends the professionalism and dedication of all personnel involved in this critical operation.
