Justice (Ret’d) Claudette Singh, Chair of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), has scheduled a meeting with commissioners from the APNU and PPP/C to certify the results of the September 1 general and regional elections. The meeting will commence at 11:00 PM on Friday, following a recount of votes in some areas of Regions Four and Five.

The commissioners involved include Vincent Alexander, Robert Corbin, and Desmond Trotman from the APNU, along with Sase Gunraj, Manoj Narayan, and Clement Rohee from the PPP/C.
With the recount in Subdistrict Four of District 4 and parts of District Five complete, the Chief Elections Officer (CEO) will compile the results and present his report to the Commission, as required by the Representation of the People Act.
International and local observers have reported the elections as free and fair, despite the opposition APNU’s request for a recount, which did not alter the substantial victory for the ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C). The APNU faced significant losses in the elections, failing to secure any regional seats and losing its status as the main opposition party.
