Georgetown, Guyana — As Guyana approaches the General and Regional Elections on September 1, 2025, Justice of Appeal (Ret’d) Claudette Singh, Chairperson of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), addressed candidates, voters, observers, and media members, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful electoral process.

In her statement, Singh called on all stakeholders to foster an atmosphere of calm and cooperation, highlighting that elections are fundamental to democracy, requiring an environment free from intimidation and misinformation.

She reassured the public that GECOM has thoroughly prepared for the elections, with meticulous planning for logistics and polling station readiness. Extensive simulations and drills have been conducted to anticipate and address any challenges on Election Day.

Singh praised the dedication of the ordinary citizens serving as election staff, who have received comprehensive training to uphold the integrity of the process. She urged all stakeholders to respect and support these individuals as they perform their civic duties.

Importantly, Singh reiterated that GECOM alone is responsible for tabulating and declaring election results, a constitutional mandate that must be honored. She cautioned against any premature declarations or dissemination of unverified information, which could undermine public trust.

Singh concluded her address with a call for unity, urging everyone to work together to ensure that the upcoming elections reflect Guyana’s democratic maturity and commitment to peace and stability.

“Thank you, and God Bless Guyana,” she said.
