GECOM Condemns Unauthorized Filming by WIN Party’s Hadiyyah Mohamed

News

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has issued a strong condemnation of unauthorized filming and the dissemination of misleading information by Hadiyyah Mohamed, sister of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party’s presidential candidate.

While present at the GECOM compound during the recount of ballots for Sub-District 4, Ms. Mohamed filmed ballot boxes and shared the video on her Facebook page, making unsubstantiated claims of tampering. GECOM described this action as a serious breach of protocols designed to protect the integrity of the electoral process.

The Commission highlighted that all individuals within its facilities during the recount are subject to strict rules aimed at ensuring transparency and security. Unauthorized filming of sensitive electoral materials is explicitly prohibited, as it can lead to the spread of misinformation and undermine public trust in the democratic process.

GECOM reaffirmed that the recount is being conducted transparently, with representatives from all political parties and accredited observers present. The Commission urged Ms. Mohamed and all involved parties to cease such irresponsible actions and avoid spreading unverified information that could incite public unrest.

Despite the incident, the recount exercise is progressing smoothly, with minimal interruptions. GECOM remains committed to maintaining a fair and credible recount process and will take necessary actions against any further attempts to disrupt it. The public is encouraged to rely on official GECOM statements and accredited news sources for accurate information regarding the recount.
