The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has announced that voters must clean their fingers before dipping them in ink after casting their ballots on Election Day, September 1. This measure aims to ensure the integrity of the electoral process, as some individuals have attempted to remove the ink using oil or cream.

Chief Elections Officer Vishnu Persaud emphasized that the ink is designed for durability and that tissues will be available at each polling station for voters to clean their fingers.
To further protect against voter impersonation, GECOM will use a folio containing colored photographs of registered voters, accessible to both staff and election agents at polling stations.
On Election Day, voters must present valid identification, such as a national ID, passport, or driver’s license, to confirm their eligibility before voting. Persaud assured that these measures make it nearly impossible for anyone to vote multiple times unless through deliberate collusion.
