Chief Elections Officer Vishnu Persaud has contacted Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) to secure guarantees against power outages at tabulation centres during the elections.
During a stakeholder meeting with observer missions, Persaud noted that GECOM has backup systems for power disruptions. He assured that no electronic devices are needed to process Statements of Poll at polling stations, as lamps will suffice in case of a blackout.
Additionally, he mentioned that two standby generators will be provided at each tabulation location to ensure continuous operation.
