In a powerful address, media executive Glen Lall lamented the stark contrast between Guyana’s abundant resources and the widespread poverty faced by its citizens. His remarks, delivered passionately, highlight the troubling reality that, despite the country’s vast wealth, many Guyanese are struggling to make ends meet.

Lall began his message with a striking metaphor: “With the abundance of water, the fool is thirsty. That’s Guyana.” He pointed out that while the nation boasts significant resources, including oil, gold, and timber, a considerable portion of the population is left hungry.
“Billions of US dollars of our wealth are flowing out of the country, yet three quarters of the population are battling to survive,” Lall emphasized. He illustrated the absurdity of the situation by comparing it to a farmer with a pasture full of milking cows who must beg for milk to feed his child.
“Imagine that—a country producing bread with its own sugar and flour, yet its people can’t even get a slice,” he lamented, criticizing the government’s approach to addressing poverty with mere cash grants instead of substantial support.
Lall attributed the issues to a lack of proper leadership and the failure to prioritize the needs of the Guyanese people. He invoked the words of Albert Einstein, stating, “The world is a dangerous place not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.” He urged the populace to recognize their role in allowing corruption to persist through silence.
“The real danger is in our homes, in our villages, in our hearts,” Lall warned. He called for action, urging citizens to awaken and confront the injustices they witness. “Evil thrives where courage sleeps,” he asserted, emphasizing the need for collective accountability and engagement.
As Guyana stands at a crossroads with its newfound wealth, Lall’s message serves as a clarion call for change and vigilance among its citizens. “Wake up, Guyana,” he urged. “Your silence is the permission slip for evil to keep walking free.”
