Glenn Lall Criticizes Political Leadership for Mismanagement of National Wealth

News

Kaieteur News Reports : Glenn Lall, publisher of Kaieteur News, has launched a fierce critique of Guyana’s political leadership, targeting the three main political parties: the Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C), A Partnership of National Unity (APNU), and the Alliance for Change (AFC). He accused them of recklessly surrendering the nation’s wealth in a desperate attempt to service escalating national debts.

Lall argued that instead of negotiating equitable deals for the country’s resources, political leaders have reduced themselves to acting like beggars, signing away valuable oil and gold reserves for short-term financial relief. “Imagine giving away billions of US dollars in blessings just to service loans they put on our backs,” he stated.

He likened Guyana’s financial predicament to a man who, after taking a $3 million loan, continues to borrow just to survive, ultimately drowning in a $7 million debt. “Forty years later, you’re still paying the bank, still hustling to survive,” he explained.

Despite the recent discovery of vast oil and gold reserves, Lall criticized the government for inviting foreign companies to extract these resources without ensuring fair compensation for the nation. He noted, “Any sane man would use that blessing to pay off the debt, build a future, and finally breathe free air,” yet lamented that Guyana has allowed wealthy foreign entities to benefit disproportionately.

Lall highlighted that while Guyana’s national debt has surged from $3 billion in 2020 to over $7 billion in 2025, the country generated $18.6 billion from oil exports last year. He pointed out the dire state of public services, stating, “We can’t get clean water. We can’t get stable electricity. The hospitals can’t even stock Panadol.”

Labeling the situation as “betrayal and economic treason,” Lall condemned the leadership for prioritizing foreign interests over the needs of ordinary citizens, who struggle to afford basic necessities. He criticized deals that allow foreign companies to extract resources with minimal benefits to the country, referring to these entities as “looters in suits” and “thieves with contracts.”

Lall called for a national awakening, urging citizens to demand a minimum of 25% royalty from oil and mineral extraction. “This must be carved into the ballot like a national promise,” he asserted, stressing the need for decisive action to reclaim control over Guyana’s wealth.

He concluded with a rallying cry for Guyanese to stop giving away their blessings while their families continue to suffer, warning that unless there is a collective awakening, the country will remain “beggars sitting on a throne of gold.”
