Brian Joseph, a 41-year-old gold miner from Lower Pomeroon River, was arrested on June 1, 2025, by a detective from the Bartica Police Station. He faced charges of unlawful wounding, which were formally filed today under Section 50 of the Criminal Law Offences Act, Chapter 8:01.

Joseph appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court before His Worship Teriq Mohammed, where the charge was read to him. Due to the nature of the charge, he was not allowed to plead to the indictable offense.
After hearing the evidence, the court found Joseph guilty of unlawful wounding. He was subsequently sentenced to one year of imprisonment.
