Ashman Scott, a 51-year-old gold miner from Supply Village, East Bank Demerara, was arrested earlier this week at the Itaballi Check Point in Region #7 and charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

On Wednesday, Scott appeared before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed in the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges. However, after a trial, he was found guilty of the offense.
As a result, Scott was sentenced to three months in prison. The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug trafficking in the region.
