A 37-year-old gold miner from Lima Sands, Essequibo Coast, has been sentenced to three years and five months’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to charges of obtaining money by false pretence.
Alex DaGuair appeared before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Friday, June 19, 2026, to answer to the charge, which is contrary to Section 194 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.
Following his arrest on Thursday, June 18, 2026, DaGuair was formally charged on Friday. Upon the charge being read to him in court, he entered a plea of guilty. Magistrate Mohamed subsequently handed down the sentence of three years and five months’ imprisonment.
