A quantity of gold was confiscated during coordinated enforcement operations in central Georgetown on January 3, targeting illegal mining and the unauthorized trade of precious metals.

The operation involved collaboration among the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission, the ministry’s Compliance Unit, and the Guyana Police Force. Authorities processed several undocumented individuals and verified persons of interest throughout the exercise.
In a statement, officials reaffirmed their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against illegal mining activities. They announced that similar operations will be conducted nationwide as part of broader initiatives aimed at protecting the environment and upholding the rule of law.
