GRA Suspends Operations of Golden Gloves Back Track Service

News

The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has officially suspended services at the Golden Gloves Back Track Service, which operates a speedboat ferry from Corriverton to Suriname. The decision comes after the owner, Mohamed Mursaline, received a letter from the GRA instructing him to halt operations effective immediately.

According to the letter obtained by the News Room, a review of the Golden Gloves Back Track Service operations at Lot 7B, No.78 Village, Corriverton, Berbice revealed that the location is not recognized as one of the Authority’s approved ports of entry or sufferance wharves. As a result, vessels are prohibited from loading or offloading goods or baggage at the site unless expressly authorized by a Proper Officer of Customs.

The GRA stated, “Your current activities are in direct contravention of the Customs Act, Chapter 82:01, and related regulations governing the handling of goods at ports and wharves.” They formally notified Mursaline that all unauthorized operations at the Golden Gloves Back Track Service must cease immediately.

Furthermore, the letter warned that continued non-compliance could lead to severe consequences, including potential penalties and prosecution under the Customs Act. The GRA concluded by expressing that cooperation in regularizing operations would be expected and appreciated.

This suspension highlights the importance of operating within established legal frameworks and regulations, particularly for services involving the import and export of goods.
