On January 1, 2026, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) successfully conducted its first medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) operation of the year, transporting a patient from Bartica to Georgetown, highlighting the Force’s readiness for national emergency response.

A Bell 412 helicopter was mobilized and configured for MEDEVAC by a team under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Anson Weekes. The operation was supported by Flight Engineer Staff Sergeant Dwayne Jackson, Flight Technician Sergeant Joel Yaw, and Air Corps Medic Sergeant Lemuel Gillette.
Upon arrival in Bartica, the medical team received the patient and prepared them for air transport. Accompanying the patient were a family member and a medical doctor from the Bartica Hospital, ensuring continuity of care during the flight while the onboard medic provided necessary support.
The aircraft safely proceeded to Base Camp Ayanganna, where the patient was transferred to a waiting ambulance for transport to a medical facility for further treatment.
The Guyana Defence Force reaffirms its commitment to delivering timely, professional, and coordinated support in response to national emergencies, ensuring lives are safeguarded through rapid air operations whenever needed.
