Guyana Police Force Silent on 2025 Murder Rate and Road Accident Statistics

News

News Source Guyana Reports | The Guyana Police Force appears to be unresponsive regarding inquiries about the country’s murder rate for the year 2025. News Source has repeatedly sought information on the number of murders recorded from January 1 to December 31, 2025, but has received no updates.

Despite sending questions to the Joint Services WhatsApp Group—where they are seen by senior officials, including Minister of Home Affairs Oneidge Walrond and Police Commissioner Clifton Hicken—there has been no response about the requested information.

Minister Walrond acknowledged that the Police Force shared some data during its Christmas presentation in early November, but this presentation did not include updated figures following multiple murders that have occurred since then. The Police Force’s Public Relations Office initially responded to inquiries but has since ceased communication on the updated murder statistics.

During the November Christmas presentation, the Police Force highlighted a reduction in serious crimes overall, although it admitted that domestic murders have significantly increased, doubling the figures from 2024.

Additionally, News Source has requested statistics concerning the total number of deaths resulting from road accidents and incidents during 2025. This request has also gone unanswered, despite reports that top officials within the Police Force have access to the updated data.

The lack of transparency from the Police Force regarding critical public safety information raises concerns about accountability and communication with citizens regarding crime and road safety in Guyana.
