Guyanese Father and Son Arrested in Suriname Drug Raid

A father and son from Guyana were arrested in Suriname after a police raid in Nieuw-Amsterdam uncovered illegal drugs and contraband cigarettes.

According to reports from Surinamese authorities, the operation took place in the Commewijne district, where officers discovered significant quantities of hashish, crack cocaine, and marijuana in the suspects’ possession. Additionally, 14 cartons of illegal cigarettes were seized during the raid.

The two men, who are of Guyanese descent, were reportedly staying in Suriname illegally at the time of their arrest. Law enforcement officials stated that the suspects were allegedly involved in openly selling these prohibited items to local drug users.

Following their arrest, the men appeared in a Surinamese court and were subsequently remanded into custody. The case has been referred to the Nieuw-Amsterdam Police Station for further investigation.

While the identities of the suspects have not yet been disclosed, police released a photo concealing their identities as part of their ongoing inquiries.
