GWI Addresses Water Eruption Incident in Mon Repos

News

The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) has released a statement regarding a water eruption that occurred along Agriculture Road on December 30, 2025, at approximately 15:30 hours.

Following a thorough investigation, GWI determined that the eruption was caused by water hammering—a phenomenon that occurs when pressure surges in pipelines under specific conditions. The company clarified that the transmission line involved was not connected to any water treatment plant or active distribution network, indicating there was no impact on existing infrastructure.

Fortunately, the incident did not result in any injuries, nor did it cause damage to nearby properties or vehicles. While the eruption did affect a portion of the roadway, GWI’s technical teams responded promptly to the situation. The affected area has now been restored to a crusher-run level, with plans in place to return the roadway to an asphaltic finish shortly.

GWI reassured residents that there were no disruptions to the water supply for customers in the community or surrounding areas. The company remains committed to ensuring the safety, reliability, and integrity of its infrastructure and will continue to monitor the area as a precaution.

GWI expressed gratitude to the public for their understanding and cooperation during this incident.
